Joseph Soukup Jr.

1929 — July 26, 2015

Joseph “Joe” Soukup Jr., 85, of Beach Park, IL, formerly of Waukegan, IL, was born to eternal life on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at Rolling Hills Manor, Zion, IL. He was born December 12, 1929, in North Chicago, IL, and graduated from Waukegan High School in 1947. Joe married Terrie (Deram) Keefner on June 11, 1988, in Grayslake, IL. He began his career as a machinist at Deep Freeze, then Frandsen Brothers, and finished his career retiring from Baxter in 1989. Joe was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. He loved his daily newspaper and crossword puzzles and enjoyed bowling and golfing. Every Thursday was spent at the Barton House playing cards with Terrie and his brother-in-law, Bob Deram. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Theresa “Terrie”; children, Diane (Andy) Bentivegna of Beach Park, IL, Larry (Carmen) Soukup of Long Beach, CA; step-children, Mike (Diane) Keefner of OH, Sue Margetson and Bob Margetson of Kenosha, WI, Jean (Mark) Anderson of Kenosha, WI, Mary Santiloni of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Linda (David) Borrow of AZ, and Amy (Rick) Nelson of Kenosha, WI; grandchildren, Robert (Cindy), Jeff, Tony, Rick, Matt, Jaime, Chris, Tracy, Eric, and Nick; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bob Deram of Zion, Il; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his beloved dog, “Sweetie-Pie”. He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife of 31 years,Violet Soukup in 1984; brothers, Frank, Edmund and James Soukup; sisters, Marie Piquette and Adelaide Lanier; twin-sister, Joyce Alexonis; and parents, Joseph and Mary Soukup. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2015, at 11:00 a.m at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan, Rd., Zion, IL. Interment will follow at Pine View Memorial Park, Beach Park, IL. Friends may greet the family on Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Salvation Army. The Soukup family offers thanks to the staff at Rolling Hills Manor for their care of Joe and a special thank you to Joy, Eunice and Rafaela.
