June J. Cermak, 88, of Wadsworth, IL was born into eternal life on September 28, 2015.
June was born June 9, 1927 in Waukegan, IL, she was a life long resident of Wadsworth, IL and graduated from Warren High School. June married her high school sweetheart, Donald Cermak on May 16, 1947 at North Prairie United Methodist Church in Winthrop Harbor. As Don will tell you, “She was a wonderful person!”, and she enjoyed spending time with her family.
June was employed by Goodyear and North Chicago Foundry. During this time, she also assisted Don with the Cermak Fur Farm business where they raised Mink. June especially loved arts and crafts. She taught ceramics to children and adults, sewed everything from Barbie doll clothes to wedding dresses. Many of her wares were sold at craft fairs, or given as gifts. June also enjoyed vegetable gardening and canning. She was proud of her crops and would share them with family, friends, and even her doctors. June and Don had several apple trees and during harvest time she would invite her friends to pick apples, and make apple cider. Afterwards, they would gather in the screen house, by the pool to enjoy friendship and camaraderie.
Music was a big part of June’s life. As a child she played clarinet, and also taught herself to play piano. June played piano for the 4H style shows, individualizing every song to the person. She also played for Sunday school, but most importantly she played everyday for Don. During the holidays, and family gatherings her piano playing would take center stage, playing everything by memory. She could play any song she knew by ear; she never had a sheet of music.
June was a 4H leader for 34 years. For many years she was also on a bowling league with Don. June was a historian, she researched and donated historic documents of the Village of Wadsworth to the Wadsworth Museum. June enjoyed the outdoors and when she could get away from the family farm, she and Don would enjoy camping with family.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Donald “Don;” children, Carol (Alan) Field of Wadsworth, IL, Richard “Rick” (Amy) Cermak of Racine, WI, and Laura (Steve) Fischer of Trevor, WI; five grandchildren, Marcy Field, Kerry (Dave) Schwartz, Mark, Matt and Meghan Hradisky; three great-grandchildren, Samantha, Jason, and Valerie Schwartz; sister, Rose (Bill) Bandli of Zion, IL; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
