Karen Krempley (nee Mapes), 73, of Beach Park, IL died September 18, 2014 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, IL.
She was a life long resident of Zion, IL and graduated from Zion Benton Township Highschool in 1958. Karen married Steve Krempley on February 6, 1960. She worked for Ashland's which became Fortner's Jewelry and then went on to work for Dr. Alta Mekaelian in Gurnee. Karen and a group of close friends who all graduated from highschool started a group called Club. They would meet once every month and would take vacations to Door County and Florida in March and June of every year. This was their way of unwinding while having good times with close friends. She also became a member of an informal support group for parents who have children with disabilities. In her free time, Karen liked bowling, golfing and playing cards.
Karen is survived by her husband, Steve Krempley; children, Kerri (Michael) Dooper and Kathy Krempley both of Zion, IL; 3 grandchildren, Brian (Amber) Dooper, Matthew Dooper, and Scott Krempley; close cousin, Jackie Peacy Wenrich of Venice FL; friend, Betty Conn whom she thought of as a daughter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alva Mapes; a son, Stevie Krempley; and a brother, Duane Mapes.
Visitation will be held, Monday, September 22, 2014 from 11:00 until 12:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago, IL. Memorial donations to your favorite charity in Karen's name would be appreciated.
