Laurla True Jones Suttie of Escondido, CA, formerly of Zion, IL passed away peacefully at Redwood Terrace Skilled Nursing Home, Escondido, CA, November 1, 2014, at the age of 95. She was born on July 2, 1919, to Irvin & Valla Jones of Zion, IL. Laurla was the 3rd of 6 children. She was a long time member of Grace Missionary Church in Zion, IL and attended Emmanual Faith Community Church in Escondido, CA after moving there with her husband, Harold Lynn Suttie, in May of 1988. In 1946 Laurla and Harold and two of their children, Beverly True Suttie Mayhak Puzia and Robert Lynn Suttie traveled by steam boat to South Africa to serve for 6 years under the Mahon Mission now known as ZEMA. While in South Africa a third child, James Willis Suttie was born. After moving back to the United States in 1952 the last son was born, John (Jack) Harold Suttie. Laurla served as Director (1962-1967) and Chairman of the Board (1967-1988) for Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) in Zion, IL, and served as a teacher of teachers for years. She taught Good News Clubs in her home and various other locations from 1956 to 1985 in Zion, IL as well as a teaching a Good News Club and leading a prayer team for CEF in Escondido, CA. She was a musician who not only loved to sing but also played the accordion. Laurla, Harold and their good friends Willis and Edith Mayfield were part of a Gospel team with Edie and Laurla on accordians, Will and Harold on trombones and all singing together in a Gospel Team from 1936 to 1942. Her passion for assisting children and adults to know the love of Jesus was seen in her involvement as a gifted Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and director, as well as a women's prayer team that met weekly on Monday mornings for over 30 years. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, her first love was for her Lord and Savior. Laurla was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Harold Suttie (1998); son, James Willis Suttie at age 5; her parents Irvin and Valla Jones; brother Lirten Jones, sisters Echo Basinger, Arlene Olsen, Irvalyn Luce and son-in-law David Henry Mayhak. She is survived by a sister, Valma Wallace, her children Beverly True Mayhak (Edwin) Puzia, Robert Lynn (Roberta) Suttie, Jack Suttie (Jackie); her grandchildren: Pamela True Mayhak, Scott Mitchell (Kari) Mayhak, Lisa Suttie (Gabriel) Quiroz, Chris (Marnie) Suttie and Adam (Amber) Suttie. Great grandchildren include: Jonathan (Melissa) Mayhak, Justin Mayhak, Jami True Mayhak, Alexa and Samatha Quiroz, Shelby and Lauren Suttie. There will be no memorial service as Laurla wished to be remembered as a woman of faith, who was ready to meet her Lord and Savior and is FINALLY HOME.
