Hufendick, Lawrence 77, of Waukegan, IL, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 27, 2012.
He was born August 18, 1935 in Keokuk, Iowa, the oldest son of Arthur and Alma (nee Miller) Hufendick. He was united in marriage to Annette (nee Buss) Cassista on August 24, 1958.
He is survived by his 3 children, Deborah (Stephen) Slaughter of Round Lake, IL, Jerome (Marcy) Hufendick of Kenosha, WI and Jason Hufendick of Rockford, IL; his 3 grandchildren, Stephen and Samantha Slaughter, and Benjamin Hufendick; his brothers, Clyde (Marilyn) Hufendick of Sutter, IL and Carrol (Mary) Hufendick of Harvel, IL; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
His parents precede him in death.
Lawrence was a professor of mathematics and physics at Carthage College. Later he was a high school teacher of chemistry, calculus, and physics. He was most proud of his work with the Atomic Energy Commission during the 1960's. Later in life, he enjoyed working on his many research projects at the local library and attending church. His love for gardening came from childhood growing up on the family farm. Even though he left the farm during his adult life, his heart was always there.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 8th, at the First Presbyterian Church of Waukegan, 122 North Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Waukegan, IL. Interment with service for family will be held Saturday, September 29th in Tioga, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the church.
