Leona Marceil Keller, 87, (nee, Brune) of Zion, IL, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Round Lake Beach, IL.
Leona was born February 6, 1925, in Zion, and graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1942. She was a life-long member of Christ Community Church in Zion. Leona retired from the Zion Park District after 19 years of service. She also served as secretary for the Zion Park District Board and was very involved with the Zion Senior Citizens. Leona served with the United States Army as a Sergeant in the Medical Corps during World War II. She had a deep, abiding faith in her Lord, and dearly loved her family.
Survivors include her daughters, Lezli Marceil (Jack) Hughes of FL, Tamra Keller of Waukegan, IL, and Heidi Keller of Gurnee, IL; grandchildren, Heather (Robert) Heiden of Lake Villa, IL,
Amber (fiancé, Justin Basara) Placek of Antioch, IL, Joshua (Amanda) Hughes of AL, and Leona J. Keller, USMC, Camp Pendleton, CA; step-grandchildren, Jack Hughes Jr. and Jennifer Hughes; great-grandchildren, Katie Marceil Heiden and Sophia Olivia Heiden; five step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great grandchild; nieces and nephews and other family.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Charles E. Keller; her parents, Conrad and Leona Brune; an infant son; brothers, James and Donald Brune; an infant sister; sisters, Lois Barton, Naomi Bukin, and Joan Wray; niece, JoAnn Berman; and nephew, Dennis Bukin.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Dr., Zion, with Pastor Jon Wiziarde officiating. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorial donations are suggested to the Camp Zion Ministry of Christ Community Church.
