LeRoy Thompson

1930 — January 18, 2017

LeRoy Thompson, 87, of Zion, IL passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. He was born January 5, 1930. LeRoy, a lifelong resident of Zion was involved in tumbling, track, and bowling at Zion - Benton Township High School. After graduating he joined the Air Force and served in the Korean War. Once returning home from Korea he met his wife Pat, and were married on January 9, 1954. During their first few years of marriage they lived in Spokane, Washington on the Air Force base where they met Bill and Genevieve Beetschen with whom they became lifelong friends. After being discharged from the Air Force, LeRoy and Pat returned to Zion to start a family. LeRoy, a carpenter by trade, was a superintendent for a number of large construction companies in northern Illinois. He built and designed his own home in Zion where LeRoy and Pat raised two children. After working as a supervisor, he then was a blue print designer for Zion Church Designers and then became the building inspector for the city of Zion for 10 years. LeRoy will be remembered by many for his strong christian witness and love of his Lord. LeRoy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pat Thompson of 63 years; daughter, Michelle Thompson; parents, Vernon and Dorothy Thompson; his loving sister, LaVerne McDowell; and good friends Bill and Genevieve Beetschen. He is survived by his son, Lee (Pam) Thompson; grandchildren, Corey (fiancé Courtney Casillas) Thompson and Mindy (Michael) Meyer; two great-grandchildren, Molly and Maddox Meyer; and two brothers Theodore and DuWayne (Donna) Thompson. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 10:30 until 12:30 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. A funeral service will take place at 12:30 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation to Camp Zion have been suggested.
