Marcella Beverly, 84, of Zion, Illinois, passed away peacefully after her third battle with cancer, as her daughters sat by her side praying over her.
Marcella was born September 10, 1940. She grew up in the town of Powell Valley in Wise County, Virginia. Marcella was raised by her grandparents, Mammy & Pa, along with twelve older siblings, she was also sister to twelve children from her Mother and Step-Father. She was deeply loved by all 24! She graduated from East Stone High School in 1958 and married the love of her life, Dan Beverly, after only dating for 3 weeks. It was a match made in Heaven that lasted 62 years. If you knew them, you would often see them flirting and teasing…Dan affectionately calling her his "Baby”. Dan passed away in 2020 and they are finally united again, eternally secure with their Savior Jesus Christ.
Shortly after they were married, the newlyweds moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin for employment opportunities, then on to Zion, IL. Marcella took a factory job at General Binding Corporation making just over a dollar an hour. She was a hard worker and climbed the ladder to management, where she managed both first and second shift in her departments after getting her Business Management degree from Lake Forest College. Marcella worked at GBC For 47 years and was highly respected and beloved by all, many calling her Mom.
Marcella loved the Lord with all her heart and raised her three daughters, Linda, Brenda & Diana to do the same. She attended Journey Church for 20+ years and served faithfully as usher at “her” door each week, greeting each person with her beautiful smile, a kind word and often a warm embrace.
Marcella was a giver and a doer to the core. She had a beautiful servant’s heart and whenever she saw a need, she took care of it. She lived by the Golden Rule, always putting others first. She loved to tell stories and would be so animated that everyone would be belly laughing. She also had such an infectious laugh that whether you were laughing with her or at her, you were having a ball! Marcella loved to decorate her yard for every season and every holiday. It was a stand out on the block with flowers everywhere you looked, yard ornaments and dozens of solar lights.
Marcella loved her family deeply. When her husband Dan was diagnosed with cancer she cared for him 24/7 in their home until his passing. Her devotion was so deep that when Dan had a heart attack in 2012 she never spent another night away from him, foregoing any trips that would take them apart.
Her daughters were her pride and joy! She was close to all three of them, lavishing love and affection in every encounter. From her daughters came nine grandchildren and twenty three great-grandchildren. There is a wall of photos of all of them in her living room with a sign that says, “All Because Two People Fell in Love”. However, her love for her 2 indoor cats, Little Bit & Oliver, were what gave her purpose each day (we are still looking for loving homes for them).
Marcella is survived by her loving daughters, Linda (Bob) Lee, Brenda (Jerry) Schumacher, and Diana (Pat) Carroll; grandchildren, Melissa (Josh) Aulozzi, Mindy (Bryan) Jackson, Robert (Emma) Lee, Hannah (Matt) Monson, Ashley (Eric) Weis, Seth (Violet) Kroft, Elijah Day, Jared Day, and Lydia (Dan) Waggoner; siblings, Leona Minor, Nell Bowen, Diane Osborne, Rebecca Shockey, Loretta Trammel, Tommy Payne, and Karen Warren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel F. Beverly Jr.; mother, Della Payne; step-father, Daniel Payne; Pa, Hansford Barnette, Mammy, Martha (Bloomer) Barnette; and siblings, Clarence, Lawrence, Lorraine, Carson, Wanda, Burlie, Leonard, Luther, Lucian, Gale, Jerry, Beige, Faye, Sallie, Minnie, and Linda.
