Margaret A. Brooks, 85, of Zion, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
Margaret was born February 25, 1924, in Zion, IL, and was a 1942 graduate of Zion-Benton Township High School. She married Roy Brooks who was in the Navy in 1943 in Jacksonville, FL. Margaret was a member for over 60 years of the Zion Bible Church in Zion where she was involved in the AWANA club and attended the Women's Bible Study. She was a sewing volunteer at Victory Hospital in Waukegan (presently Vista Medical Center East). Margaret enjoyed quilting every Wednesday morning at Grace Missionary Church in Zion and met monthly for breakfast with the women of the ZBTHS graduating class of 1942.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Roy Brooks; sons, Rob Brooks of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Tom (Debbie) Brooks of Denver, CO; daughter, Janet (Ed) Erickson of Minneapolis, MN; son, Steve Brooks of Rockville, MD; grandchildren, Sarah (Jerrod) Buys, Katherine (Mike) Malander, Christy (Armando) Santiago, and Becky (Eric) Sowder; 10 great-grandchildren (and one on the way) and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Sylvester Ray and mother Carrie Ray Draudt; brothers, Chester and James Ray; and sister, Vivian Edwards.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 5, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Bible Church, 2633 Emmaus Ave, Zion, IL 60099 with Pastor David Denglinger, officiating. Friends may greet the family on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial donations be made to Zion Bible Church.
