Margaret Ruth McEaddy Turner, 84, of Zion, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, surrounded by her family, at the Sheridan Medical Complex in Kenosha, WI.
She was born January 24, 1926, in Birmingham, AL. Her mother died early in her childhood. Margaret and her younger brother, Jimmy, relocated frequently in Georgia and Florida with their father, James Davis McEaddy. When she was fourteen, her father remarried a kind woman name Fredonia Pennington Hunter. She was soon blessed with a brother, Thomas Hunter, whom she was "crazy about". When she was a girl, she aspired to be like Amelia Earhart and a fashion designer. In 1948, she married Air Force Corporal Herbert Milton Turner in Folkston, GA, and moved to Harvard, IL. They had five children together. In 1962, Warwick Electronics brought her family to Zion, IL. In the Zion community she held positions at the Zion Library and American International Hospital (Cancer Treatment Centers of America). In 1973, she retired after 10 years with Shiloh Park School where she patiently and passionately assisted in educating hundreds of children while selflessly raising her own. Margaret was a member of American Legion Post #865 (Ladies Auxillary) in Zion.
Margaret is survived by her children, Michael (Jenita) Turner of Amarillo, TX, Margaret H. (Darrel) Benavides of Pflugerville, TX, Susan (Charles) Geffen, Kathy (Herbert) Potter, Carol (Robert) Pye all of Winthrop Harbor, IL. Margaret leaves behind 15 cherished grandchildren; Richard, Margaret F., Melissa, Christina, David, Ryan, Kris, Mary, Maggie, Dallas, Dawn, Bonnie, Jessica, Nancy, and Will. Also surviving are 21 great-grandchildren; brothers James Davis McEaddy Jr. and Thomas Hunter (Kitty) McEaddy; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. She also leaves behind extended family members Larry Potter and Renee Turner, and many special sisterly friends at both Carmel House and Barton Senior Residence in Zion.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Viola Louise Mayfield McEaddy; father, James Davis McEaddy; stepmother, Fredonia Pennington Hunter McEaddy; and the father of her children, Herbert Milton Turner.
