Marie Jones

Marie C. (Scheske) Jones, 68, of Waukegan, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 27, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born on June 6, 1956, in Waukegan, Illinois, to Ervin and Edna (Marchinowski) Scheske, Marie attended Waukegan High School. She went on to work for Illinois Bell Telephone Company (later AT&T), where she enjoyed a long career before retiring in 2012.

In her retirement, Marie enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, cooking, and scrapbooking. She had a deep love for animals, especially dogs and horses, but most of all, she cherished spending time with her family. Marie was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, and friend. She touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed. She will be remembered for her beauty, kindness, generosity, and caring nature.

Marie is survived by her loving children, Michelle (Kevin) Vlies, Eric (Sarah) Jones, and Dana (Michael) Ware; her grandchildren, Hannah, Grace, Charlotte, Evelyn, Ethan, and Freyja; her sisters, Donna (Terry) Warren and Linda Fornero; her twin brother, James Scheske; and her sisters-in-law, Lori (Paul) Gruenwald, Jeanne (Lou) Milewski, and Jan (Wayne) Slusher. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Edna Scheske; her father-in-law, Clarence Jones; her mother-in-law, Elsie Jones; her former husband and friend, David Jones; and her grandson, Daniel Jones.

Marie’s children wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to Marie’s sister, Linda, for her selfless care, love, and support during Marie’s final days. The family also wishes to thank Marie’s dear friend, Pam Marsh, for her constant support and presence until the very end.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie’s honor to Redemption Road Rescue and Rehab at www.redemptionroadinc.org.
