Marilyn Jean Herbst, 73, of Zion, Illinois, passed away on August 26, 2015 in Zion, Illinois.
Funeral service will be held at Congdon Funeral Home, Zion on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 11:00 am with Rev. Robert Herbst officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be held before the funeral service. Congdon & Company Funeral Directors Ltd will be handling the funeral arrangements.
Marilyn was born in Geneva, Illinois to Howard Herbst and Beatrice Johnson on April 10, 1942. She went to high school at Grayslake Community High School and graduated in 1960. After high school, she moved to Chicago and worked for one year as a secretary in the Merchandise Mart. She was a stay-at-home Mom for many years. From 1985 to 1994 she worked as a secretary at the Catholic Charities offices in Waukegan, Illinois and Round Lake, Illinois. She became Office Manager after her transfer to the Round Lake office. She enjoyed gardening, walking, feeding the birds, squirrels, and deer. She was very creative and liked to draw, paint, and make crafts. When she was younger she sewed many of her own clothes. She was a very good cook and enjoyed cooking all types of food, but especially sweet treats. She was a kind, compassionate person and had a great love of animals.
Marilyn is survived by her children Christine, Nick, Dan, Jennifer, Kimberley, and Ericka; grandchildren Nicholas, Samantha, Matteo, and Owen; son-in-law Dennis; brother Robert; sister-in-law Debbie; nephews Tom and Chris; nieces Vicky and Taylor; Aunt Phyllis; and many cousins and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents Howard and Beatrice Herbst; brother Roland “Bud” Herbst; sister Judy Comentino; first husband Bernie Vanden Bosch, Jr.; cousin Nancy Peterson; uncle Mickey Johnson; many other aunts and uncles and her grandparents.
