Marjory L. "Gigi" Henke, 86, of Zion, died on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at her daughters home in Pleasant Prairie, WI surrounded by her loved ones.
Marjory was born March 31, 1923 in Kenosha County and has lived in this area all of her life except for the 30 years she wintered in Florida. She graduated from Mary Bradford High School in Kenosha and on June 26, 1943 she married Kenneth A. Henke. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church of Zion, where she was active in the United Methodist Women's Group. Marjory was also a member of Illinois Dunesland Garden Club, the Red Hat Society, and was involved in many other local groups and activities. Marjory began each day by saying "This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" Psalm 118:24. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and "Gigi". Her smile would light up any room. Her love was unconditional to all. Marjory instilled strong faith and values in each and every family member. She found daily joy in ordinary moments. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. "Well done, good and faithful servant" Matthew 25:21. Survivors include her children, Belinda (Terry) Schumacher of Franklin, TN, Kenneth H. (Kathy) Henke of Zion, Kathleen (John) Lloyd of Panama City, FL, and Margie (Bill) Traynor of Pleasant Prairie, WI; ten grandchildren, Kimberly Harrison, Mark (Sylvia) Harrison, Nathan (Monica) Henke, Krissy (Rob) January, Robert (Miriam) Roth, Gregory (Beatriz) Roth, Jason (Heather) Traynor, Andrew Traynor, Sara (Kevin) Wargo, and Alex (Sonja) Wicketts; ten great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Cecil West of Winthrop Harbor; and sister-in-law, Josie Henke of Smithville, MS. She was also beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews and is also survived by her friend of 72 years, Dorothy Halldin of Kenosha, WI.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth A. Henke; great-granddaughter, Faith Marie January; brother, David J. Mitchell; sisters, Clara Grossenheider, Dorothy Mitchell and Evelyn West; and her parents, Charles and Francis Mitchell.
Celebration of her life will be Tuesday, October 6, 2009, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Road, Zion. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Memorial United Methodist Church, Hospice Alliance of Kenosha, or Muscular Dystrophy Association have been suggested.
