Mark Rune

Mark Rune passed away in his home with his family on September 2, 2016 in Winthrop Harbor, IL due to complications of lung cancer. He leaves behind his wife, Diane Rune; his daughter, Michelle Rune; his son, Luke(Courtney) Rune, and granddaughter Harper Rune. Mark was born on September, 8 1952 in Waukegan, IL, to parents Adolph and Helen Rune. He grew up in a loving family with two sisters and one brother. He graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in sociology in 1975. Mark married Diane Burns on October 31, 1976. They grew up together and began dating in high school. Both lifelong residents of Winthrop Harbor, there the couple lived and raised their two children. Mark was a good, fair, hardworking father, husband, and friend. He enjoyed being outside, and especially loved playing golf and disc golf. He enjoyed camping and travelling as often as possible. When diagnosed with lung cancer in May 2015, he remained optimistic and maintained his sense of humor while fighting his illness. He remained a brave, strong man, even throughout his treatments, and never gave up hope. Mark is survived by his wife and children, as well as his brother Paul (Barbara) Gulbis, sister, Jane Herbek; andnumerous other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Helen Rune; and his sister, Peggy (nee Rune) Cook. Visitation will be at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL on Friday, September 9, from 11:00-1:00, funeral services at 1:00, followed by a burial Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A reception will follow; all are welcome. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Aurora Hospital for their constant, attentive treatment and care.
