Martha E. McElroy, 89, of Beach Park, IL, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at home.
Martha was born January 19, 1923, in Zion, IL, and graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1941. She married Clinton McElroy on September 10, 1948, at Grace Missionary Church in Zion. Martha was a member of Grace Missionary Church where she was an AWANA leader and Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed quilting for most of her life and belonged to two quilting groups. Martha worked as a secretary for Great Lakes Naval Base, Abbott Labs, and eventually retired from Reliance Universal (AKZO) in Waukegan. She also was a member of the Mahon Mission Board and the Zion Genealogical Society.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Clinton; sisters, Marian (Al) McElroy of Zion, IL, and Georgene (Keith) Price of Forsythe, IL; brother, William (Faye) McDowell of Sun City West, AZ; nephews, Tom(Sally) McElroy, Mike (Donna) McDowell and Mark (Ruth) McDowell; nieces, Connie (Bob) Langlois, Suzi (Mark) Mehlig, and Debbie (Ivan) Witts; grand-nieces and grand-nephews; dear friend, Geneva (Tim) Stanphill, and other family.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, George Oscar and Sara McDowell; and nephew, Richard McElroy.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL, with Pastor Doug Carlson of Grace Missionary Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to ZEMA or OMF.
