Martha Ann Moss, 77 of Zion, IL went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 2, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Martha was born on February 5, 1943 in Florence, Alabama to Cornelius and Lucille Skipworth. On November 19, 1960, Martha married Donald Franklin Moss Sr. and to this union four children were born. Donald and Martha move their family from New York City to Zion, Illinois in 1971. Martha worked at Johnson Motors Outboard Marine in Waukegan, Illinois; after 17 years of dedicated service Martha retired to stay home to raise and support her family. Martha confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and rededicated her life to Christ in October 2000. Martha was a faithful member of Meadow Ridge Baptist Church in Zion, Illinois under the leadership of Pastor Rob Whitworth until the passing of her husband. Martha then became a faithful member of Rehoboth Church of God in Christ Waukegan, Illinois under the leadership of Pastor Timothy W. Jones and Missionary Sandra Jones whom she respected and loved. Martha served in the Mabel Jones Memorial Women's Choir, assisted with Vacation Bible School and was known for her loaded potato salad, creamy grits and sweet potato pies. She loved to challenge anyone at a game of checkers, pitty-pat and tonk. She loved to watch westerns especially; Gunsmoke. Martha was loved by many and answered too many names; Martha, Martha Ann, Mama, Mommy, Mother, Auntie, Brown Bear, Sister In-Law, Moneybags, GG, Ironside, but most of all she was most affectionately known as grandma to many. She leave to cherish her memory and legacy of faith to her four children; Donald (Lori) Moss Jr. of Bellville, IL, Yvette Cleaver of Beach Park, IL, Yvonne Hughes of Tupelo, MS, Lucinda (Anthony) Scott of Beach Park, IL and one granddaughter that she raised; Katrina (Shawn) White of Zion, IL, 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two sister in-laws; Carolyn (Victor) Williams of Powder Springs, GA, Martha Rogan of Urbana, OH and two brother in-laws; Claude Moss of Urbana, OH and Frankie Rogers of Detroit, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Donald F. Moss Sr., parents Cornelius and Lucille Skipworth, five sisters; Virginia Skipworth, Mary Jackson, Mozelle Mitchell, Celestine Bagley and Mamie Rogers; four brothers, Cornelius Jr., Henry, Ezekiel and James Skipworth and one grandson Darnell Moss. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020 from 6:00 – 9:00pm at Rehoboth COGIC, 1001 Indiana Ave, Waukegan, IL 60085. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 9:00 – 10:00am at Mount Moriah Christian Center, 524 10th Street Waukegan, IL 60085 with Homegoing Services beginning at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion, IL with repast to follow at the Earnestine Smith Fellowship Center directly across from Mount Moriah Christian Center.
