Marvin Bachler, 88, of Lindenhurst, IL died on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Marvin was born June 20, 1927 in Clear Lake, WI. He served in the Navy at the end of WWII. In his younger days he enjoyed spending time at a trailer in Neshkoro, WI where he taught his children to fish and swim. He liked to backpack, camp and traveled frequently to Wyoming, Arizona, and Missouri where he lived for several years before returning to Illinois. A hard worker, he was a carpenter most of his life. He and Carol traveled to Bolivia on a mission trip to help the people build a church in 1999. Musically talented, he played guitar, piano, harmonica, and occasionally wrote a few of his own songs. Marvin reinvigorated the Z-B Boosters in 1968, while president of the club he was responsible for obtaining the bleachers and building the press box at the ZB football field. In 1976, Marvin was the Zion Chamber of Commerce Father of the Year.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Carol; sons Andrew (Sharon) Bachler, Kevin (Debra) Bachler; and Martin Bachler; daughter Kerrilyn (Mike) Connor; step-son George (Xing Ming) Revis; step-daughter Sue Revis; step-daughter-in-law Jennifer Revis; 15 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Elinor (nee Cliff) Bachler; son Dennis Bachler; step-sons Nelson Revis and Wally Revis; step-daughter Cindy Revis; parents August and Lulu Bachler; and his siblings, Luella, Malcolm and Della.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations have been suggested to the Rush University Medical Center Memory and Aging Project at www.rush.edu/giveonline.
