Mary Jane "Jake" Browne, of Zion, IL, formerly of Gages Lake, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at home. Mary Jane was born January 31,1924, in Chicago, IL, and obtained her Bachelor's Degree from LaCrosse Teachers College and Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin. She married her late husband, Albert J. "Chubby" Browne on March 14, 1958, in Waukegan, IL. Although primarily a homemaker, Mary Jane spent some of her adult life teaching high school in Lake County. She was a former Hall of Fame member of the Waukegan Women's Bowling Association, a member of the Women's International Bowling Congress, and also a member of Pleasant Prairie United Methodist Church. Besides bowling, Mary Jane was an avid gardener and devoted Cubs fan. Other enjoyments were traveling to Hawaii and raising her dogs. She also was a former staff member of Camp Manito-Wish YMCA , Boulder Junction, Wisconsin. She is survived by her sons, Rich (Debbie) Browne of Waukegan, IL, and Len (Linda) Browne of Zion, IL; grandchildren, David (Karen) Browne, Ashley (Andrew) Levin, Lindsay Browne and Lauren Browne; great-grandchildren, Damien Browne and Brady Browne; brother-in-law, Floyd Radel of Arlington Heights, IL; and other family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. (Chubby) Browne; sister, Jeanne McCoy; and sister-in-law, Ruth Radel. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL, with Rev. Joyce Rinehart of Pleasant Prairie United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may greet the family on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Pleasant Prairie United Methodist Church or Camp Manito-Wish YMCA.
