Born November 17, 1939, in Nashville, TN, firstborn daughter of Sandie and Maggie (Rucker) Hugle.

Confessing her faith in Christ at an early age at First Missionary Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, TN, Mary was actively involved in Sunday school and Baptist Union Conventions. She took pride in participating in the school’s marching band and playing her miniature saxophone.

Upon graduating from Holloway High in Murfreesboro, TN, she moved to North Chicago, IL, in 1958 to join other family members. It was there where she met and married James A. McCall. A daughter, Valerie (McCall) Gurley, was born into this union. Her second marriage was to Patrick H. Davis, and together they had a son, Keith L. Davis, and a daughter, Toscha B. Davis. Mary retired from the Veterans Administration in North Chicago, IL. In the early 1970s. After retiring, she became a caregiver to many children in the neighborhood. Affectionately known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren as "Sweetie," her favorite pastime was cooking Sunday dinners featuring fried chicken, pot roast, macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, greens, cabbage, fried corn, hot water cornbread, sweet potato pies, peach cobbler, chocolate brownies, Carmel and Pound cake.

Davis of Zion, IL, as well as her favorite niece, Dr. Shelonda Brookshire and her family of Beach Park, Il &Kenosha WI.

Her grandchildren who will also miss her are Callondra M. Gurley of Kenosha, WI, Anthony Davis-Howell (Brie) of Houston, TX, Cameron Gurley of Kenosha, WI and Deontay Barnes (Myra) of Waukegan, IL. She is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren and a bonus granddaughter, Nikki Johnston of Kenosha, WI., and many family members and friends, too numerous to mention. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Sandie and Maggie (Rucker) Hugle, and several relatives, including her siblings, Sandie Hugle, Jr., James Foster Hugle, and Elizabeth Kathryn Hugle, as well as her grandparents, James and Atlanta Rucker.

In line with Mary’s wishes, there will not be a service. Instead, a celebration of life dinner will be announced later. The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for all the calls and acts of kindness and requests continued prayers during this challenging time.

A special thanks to Advocate Hospice Care and caregivers Jeanette Smith and Shirlner Gardner, AJ Kopala, and special family friend Kathryn Campbell for all the care and kindness that was shown to our mother.
