Mary Louise Garside, 85, of Winthrop Harbor, and more recently of Carmel House in Zion, died on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, Illinois.
Mary was born April 17, 1922 in Zering, Illinois, grew up in Bagley, Wisconsin and moved to this area in 1962. On September 10, 1952 she married the late Charles J. Garside of Patch Grove, Wisconsin in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. She was a former long-time member of Zion Revival Center. She and Charles later renewed their vows on June 16, 1962 under the late Rev. John Clark. Mary was a five time Golden Poet Award winner with some of her work published in seven anthologies on deposit at the Library of Congress. Her own book was published under the title of "Thoughts In Rhyme: Mary's Musings". She was also a volunteer and member of the ladies auxillary for 14 years at St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan.
Survivors include her daughter Patricia (Joseph) Sparks of Winthrop Harbor; two grandchildren Joseph C. Sparks and Christine L. Sparks; one sister Marge Faber of Princeton, Illinois; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J. Garside; one brother Max O. Murphy; and her parents Daniel and Nettie Murphy.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. at the Bagley Cemetery,Bagley Wisconsin; with Rev. Mary Ann Floerke officiating.
