Mattias “Matt” Maki, 87, of Zion, IL, died on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at Rolling Hills Manor, Zion, IL.
He was born October 21, 1927, in Wakefield, MI, and married Laila Kallinen, on March 19, 1955, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Waukegan, where they are members. Mattias retired from Johnson Motors (OMC) after over 30 years of employment. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mattias was a hardworking and loving family man and was talented in woodworking. He also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Laila Maki; children, Kathryn (Rob)Anderson of Zion, IL, Linda Maki (Jeff Galang) of Morris, IL, and Cynthia Harris (Terry Gregorian) of Waukegan, IL; grandchildren, Robert Anderson (Tracy Lawler), Lisa (Charlie) Cain, Kevin Mager and Kyle Anderson; great-grandsons, Alex, Mattias, and Jonas; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Allen Maki; son-in-law, Thomas Harris; parents, Victor & Ida (Autio) Maki; and sisters, Esther Hill, Lempi Mustapa, Elsie Jones, and Sally Letcher.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at 3:00 p.m at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 3350 N. Delany Rd., Waukegan, with Rev. Jeffrey Koth, officiating. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorial donations are suggested to the COOL ministry of the church.
