Maurice “Reese” Anthony Miller Sr., 79, of Zion, IL passed away peacefully on February 11th, 2021 in Waukegan, IL. He was the son of Clayton (Callista) Miller, born on March 31, 1941 in Vincennes, IN. Reese went to Catholic school from a young age until High School, where he then proudly served in the Marine Corps and finished his education. On July 20th, 1963, Reese married his wife, Barbara, and they moved to Zion, Illinois and raised their two children. Reese and Barb celebrated 57 years of marriage. Reese worked as a tradesman and was a Union member of the Millwrights Local 1693 and Carpenters Local 250.Reese spent time volunteering in the Zion Benton community. As a member of the Zion Benton Moose Lodge, he would oversee coordinating the fishing derby and the children’s Easter Egg hunt, as well as helping build important projects like the Veterans Memorial wall and the pavilion, in addition to various projects at the VFW. Reese showed his pride as a Veteran by driving the float for the Labor Day Parade and always having his flag displayed in the front yard of his home. Most importantly were the fond memories he shared with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, either when camping and fishing, but often sneaking them Pepsi, ice cream, Reesie peanut butter cups and M&Ms. Reese loved life and was the life of the party. Reese is survived by his loving wife Barbara, children; Robert Keith Miller, Tina (Bill) Ramey, Maurice “Reese” (Wendi) Miller Jr., grandchildren; Tania Miller, Kristen Ramey, Stacey Ramey, Jacob Miller, Lucas Miller, and Joshua Miller, great-grandchildren; Jayden, Kamarii, Brayden, Maliyah, John, and Mariyah, and siblings Shirley and John, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Mitzi and Julie. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 16th, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., followed by a funeral service at 7:00 P.M., at Congdon Funeral Home located at 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion, IL 60099. Interment will be private at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville. Celebration of Life Reception will occur at a later date.
