Galayda, Michael 67, of Zion, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital after a four year battle with multiple cancers.
Mike was born July 3, 1944 in Muskegon, Michigan. He was a graduate of Columbia College. He married Patricia Szychulda on July 4, 1976 at St. Stanislaw's Church in Ozone Park, NY.
Michael served the U.S. Army for 12 years and did three tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired from Lafarge Corporation in Waukegan in 2009 as the terminal manager after 25 years of employment.
He was a lifetime member of the DAV and the VFW. He was also a member of the Sunrise Lodge No. 359 and Unity Lodge 367 where he served as Worshipful Master.
Mike is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia; daughter, JoAnna Galayda of Zion; father, Michael Galayda of West Frankfort, IL; mother, Jeanne Baumflek of Muskegon, MI; brothers, Gene of Forney, TX, Ted and John of Muskegon, MI; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Jon in 2006.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Visitation will be held from 1:00p.m. until the time of the service.
