Mike “Pops” O’Neal, 77, of Beach Park, IL died on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at University of Illinois Chicago Hospital.
Pops was born October 16, 1938 in Lepanto, AR and lived in this area most of his life. He served with the United States Army from 1961 to 1964. He retired in 1995 from Avon Products in Morton Grove, IL and after retiring he went to work for Waukegan Port District as a Security Guard at Waukegan Airport. He was the former treasurer of Beach Park Girls Softball Association. Pops was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan and he loved to fish.
Survivors include his daughter Sharon Mikels of Beach Park, IL; two grandchildren Kyle Bryan Mikels and Kassidi Paige Evone Mikels; his former spouse and friend to the end Brenda O’Neal of Zion; and his faithful canine companion, “Smooch”.
He was preceded in death by his son Bryan O’Neal; and his parents Allie and Ruby O’Neal.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be Thursday, August 18th, at 11:00 a.m. at Pineview Memorial Park, Beach Park, IL. Memorial contributions to Underdog Rescue of Antioch, IL (underdog-rescue.com) has been suggested.
