Mildred Stried

1909 — January 29, 2010

Mildred Elizabeth Stried (nee Dreyer), 100 years of age, is in the presence of the Lord on January 29, 2010. Born March 22, 1909 in Zion, Illinois to George and Leona Dryer, she was the 4th of seven children. On July 6, 1926 she married Gladstone Stried in Waukegan, Illinois. Mildred dedicated her life to serving Jesus Christ. She was a member of Christ Community Church (formerly Christian Catholic Church) and the Zion Faith home, both of Zion. Mildred was drawn to the ministry. She studied at Great Lakes Bible Institute and was ordained. With her training she was inspired to travel on short missionary trips doing so in several states and even went as far as Jamaica where she brought her own rhythm band. She worked tirelessly with Child Evangelism. In an interview for the Zion-Benton News, her daughters Donna & Betty sum it up by saying "She always read the Bible daily and trusted the Lord for everything and was always happily doing things and having people around." She is survived by her two daughters, Betty Stried of St. Paul, Minnesota and Donna (Bill) Sayle of Zion, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Jane Stried of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois; sister-in-law, Doris Dreyer of Little Chute, Wisconsin; grandchildren, William (Donna) Stried, David Gladstone Ernstmeyer, Robert (Kathy) Stried, Debbie (Gary) Hawkins, Jim Stried and Maureen (Wally) Austin; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Newman and Alexandria, Christopher and Alyssa Stried; great-great-grandchildren, Ashley and Briana Gardina and Micah (Karen) and Jordan Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Gladstone; her son, William G. Stried; brothers Silas, Chester, Nathaniel and Norman Dreyer; and sisters Muriel Mill and Myrtle Becker. Mildred's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Christ Community Church in Zion. A visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Doug Detert officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. The family has suggested memorial donations be made to Camp Zion of Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, or to Evergreen Center, c/o Pastor Doug Detert, N3058 Lake Drive, Wautoma, Wisconsin 45892. Until we meet at Jesus' feet, rest in peace dear one.
