Paul Peters

1923 — August 17, 2016

Paul “Pete” Peters, 93, went to be with the Lord on August 17, 2016. Pete was born in Zion, Illinois on March 1, 1923. He was a lifelong resident of Zion and Beach Park, and a part time resident of Door County, Wisconsin - his favorite place on Earth. Pete married Beverly Hosken on October 14, 1944, and they had 67 years together before Bev passed on April 29, 2012. He was a long time member of Christ Community Church. He was co-founder of Camp Zion in Door County, and had a deep passion for working with all the kids who attended over the decades. His vision more than 60 years ago lives on and continues to change so many lives. Pete was self-employed his entire adult life, and enjoyed running his electronics business with Bev until he was into his 80's. He is survived by two daughters, Wendi (Jim) Funderburk, and Cindi Kealiher; four grandchildren, Kimberli Mallek, Kevin (April) Mallek, Christopher Kealiher and Jayson Kealiher; two great-grandchildren, Conner and Mason Mallek; five neices and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; his parents Forest and Ruth Peters; and siblings, Louise Brown and Ethel Emanuelson. A funeral service for Pete and memorial service for Bev will take place on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, Illinois. Friends may greet the family from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, Illinois. Memorial donations to Camp Zion or the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
