Pell Puro, 95, passed away in his sleep at Kenosha Estates Nursing Home, Kenosha, Wisconsin on December 16, 2016. Pell was born February 28, 1921 in Owen, Wisconsin the son of Henry and Hannah (Marin) Puro. He was the sixth of nine children. Pell was raised on a dairy farm and worked on the family farm until drafted. He entered the armed forces on Oct. 24, 1942 and served in the US Army during World War II in France. He began working at American Can Company near Waukegan until they were bought out by Abbot Laboratories. He worked most of his life at Johnson Outboard Motors plants in Waukegan, Illinois. After retirement he enjoyed working out of doors doing landscaping for friends and neighbors. He was always willing to help anyone in need. Pell served St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Waukegan as a member of the church council and longtime church landscaper. Pell was united in marriage to the former Laimi Rose Suomu on May 12, 1945 in Owen, Wisconsin. They made their home in Waukegan where they raised their family.
Survivors include: sons Duane (Judy) Puro of Gladstone, Michigan, Mark (Julie) Puro of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, daughter Karin (William) Wood of Winthrop Harbor; sisters Gertie Brien of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and Miriam Luoma of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; grandchildren Matthew (Bonnie) Puro, Eric (Tina) Puro, Keith (Erin) Puro, Dawn (Andrew) Puroway, Scott Puro, Rhiannon (Christopher) Urso, Tiffany Wood, and Ryan Puro; great-grandchildren Caitlin and Hope Puro; Annalee and Emmalyn Puro; Jordan, Cora and Bayliena Puro; Noelle, William and Jude Puroway; Bayleigh Tienhaara; Madison, Lauren and Christopher Urso, Jr., many nieces and nephews and special friend Theresa Gorman.
Preceding Pell in death were his parents Henry (Heikki Puurunen) and Hannah (Anna Johanna Marin) Puro and brothers, Toivo, Pentha, Arvo, Onnie, and sisters Katherin and Helen, son Bradley and granddaughter Christine Puro.
Pell’s family will receive friends on Friday, December 23, 2016 between 10:00 and 11:00 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Waukegan, Illinois. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 followed by a luncheon.
