Percy Smith

Percy Lee Smith of Beach Park, Illinois, departed this life on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Vista East Medical Center, Waukegan, Illinois. Percy was born in Topeka, Kansas on March 21, 1925 to the union of Benjamin and Mattie Smith. He lived in Gary, Indiana for over 80 years. He attended Warren Memorial Church of God In Christ under the late F. W. Warren during his early years and continued to serve under Elder Lovelle Warren as a Deacon. After moving to Beach Park, Illinois he attended God's Temple Outreach Church of God In Christ under Elder Timothy Moss. On February 11, 1945, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Margaret L. Taylor for 66 years. To this union 4 lovely children were born. Percy devoted his life to providing, leading, instructing, guiding and encouraging his family. He was the rock and foundation of his family. Percy took his responsibilities very seriously as he gave United States Steele Corporation 42 years of service as proof. He leaves to cherish extremely fond memories to a sister, Vivian Spears of Gary, Indiana; son, Ronald T. Smith of Corpus Christi, Texas; two daughters, Angela Raines and Denise Hawkins of Beach Park, Illinois; five grandchildren, Broderick (Janela) Smith, Artra (Patrick) Gray, La Ron (Katherine) Smith all of Racine, Wisconsin, Iwan (Miriam) Smith Sr. of Palatine, Illinois, and Kenya Hawkins-White of Beach Park, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Iwan Jr., Whitney, Nathaniel, Daisy, Maurice, Jahlena, Jeremiah, Anaysia, Keniyah, Shaquile, Jasmine, Priscilla, and Brittany. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Mattie Smith; wife, Margaret L. Smith; brothers, James and Ernest Smith and Truman Gill; sisters, Hazel Barnes, Arlene Lipsky, and Dorothy Matthews; and his son, Percy Jr. The services will be held on April 16, 2013 at Prayer Garden Church of God In Christ 2813 20th Street, North Chicago, Illinois. Visitation service will begin at 10:00 am followed by Home Going Service at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL.
