Peter Dirk Reinier, 81, passed away peacefully in the hands of Jesus with his beloved family by his side on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Hospice Alliance in Pleasant Prairie, WI. He make his final journey from home in Weyauwega, WI on Friday, October 16th, to spend his final days with old and new very treasured friends and family. Peter D., as only his wife Judy called him, is survived by her and their combined family of Reinier’s: Frank & Paula and Glenn & Diane; Shales’: Robb & Rosanne, Greg & Jennifer, Ed & Teresa, and Deanna & Brian; his fantastic grandchildren, Reinier’s: Manya, Eric, and Andre; Shales’: Robbie, Ricky, Russell, Stephanie, Kelly, Ashley, Megan, Racheal, and Leanna; nine grandchildren; his beloved brother-in-law John; and “DAISY”. He is also survived by 5siblings: Katerine “Kato” Banks and her 4 children; Bart & Margaret and their 7 children; Christopher “Kit” & Darcy and their 6 children; Lynn & Winthrop “Wink” Nolte and their 4 children; Susan Thompson and her 3 children; sister-in-law Yvonne (nee Miller); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn H. & Marguerite Reinier; infant sister Barbara “Babs”; first wife Johanne; and brothers-in-law Dan Banks and Don Thompson. Zion High School was blessed with one of the best gymnasts ever as he performed in the High School Circus. College was in Missoula, MT where he had his first greatest adventure as a Smoke Jumper. His smoke jumping experience helped him serve his country from 1951 - 1963 as an E5 in the Army paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne . He served in Germany and Fort Bragg. Photography was his second position which held another of his greatest adventures - taking pictures of and shaking the hands of one of our greatest Presidents, John F. Kennedy, for the Fort Bragg Times military newspaper. After leaving the military he returned to Zion where he was active in the Zion Kiwanis Club for 22 years by serving as their President, Vice-President, Safety Coordinator, and Lt. Governor of Division 7II District of Kiwanis International. Yet another adventure was helping organize and start Zion’s Annual Festival of Lights and his very special Night Before Christmas display that lit up the old library with pictures and music throughout the Christmas Season. He was also a member of the Zion-Benton Moose, the Zion-Benton American Legion, Scout Master for Troop 63 of Zion. The Anchor & Ark Masonic Lodge #1027 A.F. &A.M., of Waukegan was his foundation of strength for 39 years. He served as Worshipful Master 3 times and was longtime Chaplain. He was Past High Priest of the Chapter of Royal Arch Masons #41 of Waukegan, Life member of Lake Council #121 Cryptic Masons of Illinois, the Lake County Shrine Club of Illinois, Shriner’s International, the Royal Order of Scotland, Bethel Commandery #36 Knights Templar of Palatine, IL, Order Of The White Shrine of Jerusalem, Illinois York Rite College #15, and a 32nd degree member of the Chicago Valley A.A.S.R. Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, USA. Pete also served as a Zion Police officer, Zion Park District Police officer, and as the safety coordinator professional at the Zion Park District. Visitation will be Saturday, October 24, 2015, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL, where Masonic Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 25th, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3350 North Delany Road, Waukegan, IL, with Pastor Jeffrey E. Koth officiating. Private interment will be held later for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Anchor & Ark Lodge #1027, 127 N Genesee Street, Waukegan, IL 60085 have been suggested.
