Phil Grubbs, 77, of Gurnee, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Highland Park Hospital.
Phil was born January 11, 1936, in Blanche, Kentucky. He worked for and retired from the Lake County Highway Department, Libertyville, IL, in which he worked for over 30 years. Phil was a wonderful servant of the Lord, whose favorite readings were the Book of Revelations. He greatly enjoyed listening to Gaither Vocals and Jimmy Swaggart. Phil was the family historian. He found much pleasure in building lasting family memories, taking photos and videos to ensure treasured memories will never be forgotten. Phil is the definition of a family man who embraced his large extended family with a prideful love.
Survivors include his loving wife, Virinia Grubbs (nee Holcombe-Combs); children, David Grubbs Sr., Carla (Dwayne) Karow, Marcy (Scott) Adolphs, Everett Combs, Mary Combs, Sandy Creamer, Maxine (Mike) Billick, James (Dawn) Combs, Robert (Jessica) Combs; Sisters Mary (Roy deceased) Norvell, Carla (Earl deceased) Gross, and Glenna (Joe deceased) Miller; Grandchildren Suzanne, David Jr, Brittany, Aaron, Casarah, Owen, Lea, Alec, Vincent, Bobby, Everett Jr, Ruth, Rebecca, Robert, Rachel, Daniel, Kimberly, Robbie, Debbie, Deanna, John, Matthew, Samantha, Ryan, Andrew, Andrea, Mckenna; two special great-granddaughters at home with him, Kaylee & Karli, and many more loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, April 29, 2013 at Spirit of Life Church, 1222 Lorelei Dr., Zion, at 10:00 a.m. with Sister Phyllis Miller, officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Entombment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago.
