Woodman, Phyllis 85, a longtime resident of Waukegan and a 16 year resident of Sun City, AZ, died on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at the Clare Bridge Nursing Home, Kenosha, WI.
She was born September 24, 1928, in Damariscotta, Maine, and married her late husband, Gilbert "Gil" Woodman on September 29, 1946, in Bath, Maine, and together they moved to Maywood, IL, eventually moving to Waukegan in 1952. Phyllis was a former member of Bonnie Brook Baptist Church in Beach Park and Grace Bible Church in Sun City. She was retired from the Waukegan School District. Phyllis and Gil dedicated many years of their lives as foster parents to a number of children. Phyllis was named Foster Mother of the Year 1966. She enjoyed square dancing and performing line dances with the Sun Line group of Sun City.
Survivors include by her children, Richard (Vidie) Woodman of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Cheri (Ron) McCormick of Dale City, VA, Bill (Lisa) Woodman of Zion, IL, Betsy (David) Dean of Huntington, IN, Susan Lee of TN, Sandie Myers of Normal, IL, Stephanie (Craig) Stewart of SC., and Nicholas (Debbie) Farinas of Salisbury, MA; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gil; daughter, Jane Jackson; brother, Parker Gray; sister, Orlene Uphill; and father and mother, James and Shirley Gray.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Interment will follow at Pineview Memorial Park, Beach Park, IL. Friends may greet the family on Monday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. The family expresses appreciation to Clare Bridge Nursing Home and Passages Hospice for their care of Phyllis. Memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association
