Rachel Alshouse, 98, of Pleasant Prairie, WI, passed away March 6, 2020.
Rachel was born September 26, 1921 in Zion, IL. She graduated in 1939 from Zion Parochial School and was a life-long active member of Christ Community Church in Zion. She was employed for many years at the Zion Cookie Factory and later, at Abbott Laboratory. Rachel also volunteered as an Assistant Girl Scout Leader for 11 years in Zion. She was an avid reader and was lovingly refered to as, ‘the Walking Dictionary’ by her family and friends. Most of all, Rachel loved her family and her cats.
She is survived by her children, Susan Otterbacher and Richard (Veronica) Alshouse; grandchildren, Audra (Steve) Dutler, Dan (Roxanne) Otterbacher, Heidi (Ryan) Lindsey, Thomas (Katie) Alshouse, and Sarah (Ben) Rockey; great-grandchildren, Rachel & Ian Dutler, Jerred & Nicolette Otterbacher, Makenna & Ethan Lindsey, Madelyn Alshouse, Benjamin Rockey; and her sister-in-law, Betty Snelling of Acadia, CA.
Rachel was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William in 1995; a son-in-law, Theron Otterbacher; and Jim (Joy) Snelling, David Snelling, Mark (Karlene) Snelling, Byron Snelling, Arthur (Libby) Snelling, Elsie (Al) Ower, and Ruth (Harry) Oakes.
A Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 13, 2020 at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, IL 60099, until the time of Service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion, IL.
