Rachel Liddle

1922 — June 8, 2008

Rachel Lois Liddle, 85, of Zion, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 8, 2008 after a short illness. Rachel was born on October 3, 1922, to the late Leon and Amelia Short at her home in Zion. She was married to Clarence C. Liddle on October 2, 1942, also at her home. Clarence and Rachel enjoyed 65 years together. In addition to being a wonderful wife and mom, Rachel loved serving at church in various capacities; quilting with her "Pins and Needles" group, getting together on a regular basis with a group of special friends she had known since kindergarten, doing crosswords with Clarence (and anyone else who would help her when she got stumped!) and music, from gospel to opera. She always listened to Moody Radio for Christian Music and Bible teaching and she enjoyed the dry humor of Garrison Keillor. Most of all, Rachel was a "Prayer Warrior". She could be counted on to pray for others and their needs. Her strong faith in Jesus Christ was evident throughout her life. She trusted in Christ alone as her Savior, and sought to follow Him in obedience all her adult life. She was a longtime member of Grace Missionary Church of Zion. Rachel will be dearly missed by her children, Deborah (Mark) Knowles, Kathleen (Robert) Brynolf, Martha (Robert) Peterson, and Douglas (Audrey) Liddle; grandchildren, Jonathan (Cherryl), Julie and Jacob Knowles, Christopher (Sarah) and Zachary Brynolf, Erik and Kirsten Peterson, and Megan and Joshua Liddle; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Treena, Sarah, Erin and Jonah Knowles, and Abbey and Allison Brynolf; a brother-in-law, Jim Liddle; and six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; grandson, Jonathan Robert Brynolf; a sister, Evelyn; and her husband, Vernon Ayer; sister-in-law, Pearl Liddle; a brother, Glenn; and twin brothers, Gordon and Donald. Visitation will be Friday, June 13, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Grace Missionary Church, 1415 27th Street, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 13th, at Grace Missionary Church, at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Doug Carlson officiating and Interment following at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. Memorial donations to Grace Missionary Church in her memory have been suggested.
