Ragan D. Smith, 53, of Zion, IL died October 26, 2016 at Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park, IL.
Ragan was born March 28, 1963 in Waukegan, IL and was a lifelong resident of the Lake County area. He graduated from Zion Benton Township High School in 1981 and attended College of Lake County for computer science. Ragan began his working career at the Zion Park District, then was one of two teens to be accepted as an IT professional with Johnson Motors and then moved to Anixter Inc. as an operations analyst for the last 26 years. Ragan enjoyed everything sports. He was an avid golfer and coached many of his son’s & daughter’s teams. He also loved movies, music and dancing but being a family man was his greatest love.
Survivors include his wife, Kimberly; son, Collin (Adeline) Smith; daughter, Logan Smith; parents, Catherine Smith and Nathaniel Smith-Omar; siblings, Nedra Cannon, Gail Edwards, Kathleen Scheard, and Craig (Mary Alice) Smith; several half-siblings; sister-in-law, Kelly (Michael) Mitrovic; brother-in-law, Robert (Alicia) Hughes; father and mother-in-law, Richard and Susan Hughes; special uncle, Clarence; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
A visitation will take place Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL and again on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at First Corinthian Baptist Church, 1529 Elizabeth Ave., North Chicago, IL. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, IL.
