Raymond Curran

The evening of Monday, 29 September 2014, Raymond Curran , 90, of Waukegan, IL went home to be with his Lord and Saviour. Ray stepped on shore and found it Heaven, he touched a hand and found it was God's, he breathed a new air and found it celestial, Ray woke up in Glory and found it Home. Ray was born 28 January 1924 in LuVern Iowa, the son of Harry and Bernice Bly (Butterfield) Curran. Ray met his wife Gladys while he was serving with the United States Marine Corps during WWII at Great Lakes. God Blessed Ray and Gladys with a happy marriage for over 66 years. Ray, a carpenter by trade, "Together" with is wife Gladys built their first house in Winthrop Harbor living there until 1966 when they built their next home and moved to Waukegan because of their jobs at the Waukegan Public Library. Ray was a longtime member of The American Legion, Zion-Benton Post 865 and former member of the Marine Corps League. We want to thank the office of Dr. James Monahan and Lake Forest Hospital Cardio/Pulmonary Rehab for their love and care. Survivors include four children Jean (Thomas) Lex Sr. of Waukegan, IL, Gayle DeNardis of Marshfield, WI, Raymond Curran Jr. of Waukegan, IL, and Ronald Curran of Rogers, CT; grandchildren Thomas and Christy Lex Jr. of Waukegan, IL, Nicole DeNardis of WI, Christopher and Karen DeNardis of WI, Katrina and Michael Uy of WI, Victoria and John Baus, Nicholas and Julie DeNardis of WI, Jonathan DeNardis, Ronald S and Denise Curran of Manchester, CT, Kimberly and Eugene Ryone of Montville, CT, Kaila and Joe Maurer of Woodstock, CT, and Karisa Curran of Newington, CT; twenty-three great-grandchildren; sisters Ruby Curran Thompson of Bend, OR, Mary Curran Arjemi of Bend, OR, Sara Curran Smith of Blue Earth, MN, Barbara Jean Curran Moor of Blue Earth, MN, sister-in-law Margaret Curran of Blue Earth, MN, Mable Curran of Torres, IA; brothers/sisters-in-law Rachel Richardson of WI, Marjorie and Lyle Springer of IL, Myrtle Ortwig of WI, and Glenn and Elsie Richardson of IL; and several cousins and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys in 2012; parents Harry Curran and Bernice Butterfield Curran; brothers and sisters Sylvia Curran McDougall, Edith Curran Hanna Moen, Wilfred "Bill" Curran (K.I.A. World War II), Archibald Curran, Harry Curran, Maude Curran Brown, Ike Curran Ficken, Walter Curran and Daniel Curran. Visitation will be Friday, October 3, 2014, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, IL. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL in lieu of flowers memorials to Zion-Benton American Legion Post #865 have been suggested.
