Raymond Lloyd "Ray" Shelton,92, of Zion, IL, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012, at home surrounded by family.
Ray was born September 6, 1919, in Florence, AL, and married Shirley Graf on December 23, 1964, in Waukegan, IL. He served with the United States Army during World War II. Ray was a retired employee of Lake Forest College of over 30 years of service specializing in carpentry. He was a family man who loved gardening, woodworking and had a special affection for his dog, Star.
Survivors include his wife of over 48 years, Shirley; children, Denise (John) Crosby of Madison, AL, Carrie (John) Hucker of Beach Park, IL, and Tammy (Scott) Lange of Zion, IL; grandchildren, John, Chris, Jayson, Nathan, Matthew, Amy, and Danielle; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Clara Shelton of Tupelo, MS, brothers, Randall (Heather) Shelton of Zion, IL, Roland (Bobbie) Shelton of MI,and Rev. Curtis (Sarah) Shelton of Tupelo, MS; sisters, Mary Faye (Ned) Olmstead of Summerville, S. Car.,and Geneva Rowland of Winthrop Harbor, IL; numerous nieces and nephews and other family.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James and Cora Shelton; brothers, James and Maynard Shelton; and nephew, Tommy Shelton.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 12 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd. Zion, IL, with Rev. Curtis Shelton, officiating. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Memorial donations are suggested to Star Hospice.
