Richard "Duke" Goodwin, 70, of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, died on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Rolling Hills Manor Nursing Home of complications from Diabetes. Survivors include his wife, Karen; daughters, DeAnn (Van) Weber of Zion, Linda (Bob) Paar of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Karin (Mike) Jasinkski of Zion; two brothers, Charles (Mary) Goodwin and Howard (Kathy) Goodwin both of Zion; and one sister, Virginia Goodwin Benson of Paddock Lake, Wisconsin. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Kyle, Ashley, Brandon, Eric, Caleb and Ivy; and his great-grandchildren, Alexis, Elijah and Landon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Francis Goodwin; by one brother, Tommy Goodwin; one sister, Ruth (and the late) Robert Humphreys; one grand-daughter, Erica Ianson; and by one nephew, Timothy Goodwin. Duke was a member of North Prairie United Methodist Church, was a member of Plasterers and Cement Masons Local 11 of Lake County, Illinois and Zion-Benton Moose Lodge #667. Duke enjoyed all sports and was a die-hard Chicago Bears fan and a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoyed cooking for his family. A special thanks to Dr. Dunlop and his staff and all his care-givers at Rolling Hills Manor. Their support and kindness will always be remembered. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, where the Zion-Benton Moose will perform the Defending Circle service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home with Dr. Ronald Greene, Pastor of North Prairie United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorial donations to North Prairie United Methodist Church have been suggested.
