Robert K. "Bobby" Guerin, 52, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, died on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He fought with dignity and courage and with everything he had. Bobby was born November 25, 1955, in Waukegan and was a 1974 graduate of Waukegan High School. He married Bridget Quilty on May 15, 1982, at Our Lady of Humility Church in Beach Park, where both are members. He was recently retired from the Zion Fire and Rescue Department after 30 years of service. He was a Lieutenant and Certified Paramedic. Bobby also worked on the Pension Board of the Local 1999 Zion Professional and Firefighters Association. He was also Zion Firefighter of the Year in 1999. He was a CPR instructor and was further employed as a Certified Financial Planner and Tax Preparer for ABT Tax Service in Beach Park. Bobby was a huge Chicago White Sox fan, an avid 12" softball player, a former girls softball coach, and a lifelong league bowler (having recently bowled a 300 game and 791 series). Bobby will be remembered as a man of great integrity, who was kind and patient and who dearly loved his family. He found his calling as a fireman and will be greatly missed by his fire family as well. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Bridget (nee Quilty); children, Ross and Allison Guerin of Winthrop Harbor; mother, Rita Guerin of Waukegan; father, Robert (Betty) Guerin of Lake Work, FL; brothers, Bernie (Paula) Guerin of Doraville, GA, and Steven (Cindy) Satterfield of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Kelly (Ron) Colangelo of Winthrop Harbor; brother, Russell (Nicole) Satterfield of FL; sisters, Julie (John) Weiss of Kenosha, WI, and Nicole Satterfield of FL; mother-in-law, Betty Quilty of Grayslake, IL; brother-in-law, Patrick (Michelle) Quilty of Libertyville, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Patrick J. Quilty; his grandparents; and several aunts and uncles. The Guerin family wishes to thank the Zion Fire and Rescue Department for their loving support and encouragement. A special thank you to Sharon and Alex Dimitrijevich and the wonderful nurses and patient care technicians at MRMC. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Rd., Beach Park. Interment is private for the family. Visitation will be Friday, August 29, 2008, from 3:00-9:00 p.m at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd.,Zion, IL. Memorial donations are suggested to the Zion Professional Firefighters Association (ZPFA) P.O. Box 501, Zion, IL 60099 for a Firefighters Scholarship to be established in Bobby's name.
