Robert "Bob" Johnson, 81, of Kenosha, WI, formerly of Beach Park, IL, went home to heaven on Monday, May 6, 2013, at Azura Memory Care, Kenosha, WI.
Robert was born December 22, 1931, in Edinboro, PA, the son of Fred and Ruth Johnson. He graduated from Edinboro High School in 1950, moving to Zion, IL, in 1953. On April 17, 1954, he married Geraldine "Gerri" Haas at the Grace Missionary Church in Zion. Robert worked for the old Chicago and Northshore Railroad as a conductor until it closed down. He then worked for the Zion Post Office for 15 years. Lastly he worked for the RTA in Chicago until he retired. He was a member of Grace Missionary Church and the Winthrop Harbor AARP.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Geraldine; children, Susan Fries of Haskell, OK, Carolyn (Rick) Zudonyi of Lexington, KY, and Beverly (David) Jackson of Zion, IL; nine grandchildren, Melissa (Toby) Josephson, Leticia (Brad) Simoneaux, Ryan Johnson, Tina Reece, Tim (Renee) Fries, Jamie (Charles) Smith, Denise Cardenas, Holly (Brian) Washington, and Kimberly Zudonyi
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson-in-law, Keith Reece; and loving grandmother, Nellie McCommons who raised Robert after his mother died when he was at an early age.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL, with Pastor Doug Carlson of Grace Missionary Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Pineview Memorial Park, Beach Park, IL. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
