Robert (Bob) Mason, 85, a lifelong resident of Zion, Illinois went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 14, 2014 surrounded by his family.
He was born December 20, 1928 to Gerald and Esther Mason. He graduated from Zion Benton High School in 1946. After graduating from Wheaton College, he served in Occupied Germany as a Corporal in the U.S. Army. He spent his entire career as a salesman for Midway Heating and Supply in Zion. His love for music was expressed in his participation in the Zion Band, Zion Chamber Orchestra, the Antioch Community Band, The Colonel Samuel Webb's 3rd Connecticut Band of Musick and with an ensemble in area nursing homes. His love for people was exhibited in his passion for sharing a joke and desire to encourage and pray for those in need. He could be found with his many friends on the golf course, in the coffee shop or area restaurants.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sara L. Mason (nee Daisy), his children David (Debra) Mason of Zion, Mark (Laureen) Mason of Breckenridge, CO, Linda Mason of Rogersville, MO, and Sandra (David) Redderoth of Roswell, GA; step-children, Andy (Lynne) Angelos, Tom (Dana) Angelos, Steve (Terri) Angelos all of Zion, IL; grandchildren Kristen (Nick) Sorenson, Brendan (Brittany) Redderoth, and Eric Redderoth; step-grandchildren, Steven (Michelle) Angelos, James Angelos, Jacob Angelos, Melissa Anderson, and William Flegal; Great grandchildren Gage and Sofia Sorensen; great-grandson, Matthew Angelos; and a brother G. William (Peg) Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 33 years, Claire Mason (nee Wallace), and his grandson Jordan Lee Mason.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, IL. A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. In lieu of flowers, donations to Christ Community Church Missions or Camp Zion would greatly be appreciated.
