Robert L. Steinmetz, 88, of Zion, IL and formerly of Galesburg, IL died Friday, October 19, 2012 at Rolling Hills Place in Zion.
Robert was born April 19, 1924 in Freeport, IL. He was a graduate of Freeport High School. Robert retired in 1982 after 30 years of service with Outboard Marine Corporation. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Europe. He was awarded The Purple Heart and 3 Bronze Stars. He was a member of American Legion Post 285 in Galesburg. Robert enjoyed golfing, bowling, wood working, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda (Michael) Sybrandy of Winthrop Harbor, IL; 2 grandsons Christopher Sybrandy and Brian (Dwana) Sybrandy; and one great-grandchild Camden Sybrandy.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Clyde and Amanda Steinmetz; wife Flossie Steinmetz; grand-daughter Bethany Sybrandy; brother Nuell Steinmetz; and sister Marijane Steinmetz.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2012 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Interment will take place on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg, IL.
