Robert Stried

Robert T. Stried, 93, a lifelong resident of Zion, and a resident of Barton Senior Residences of Zion, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2008. Robert was born July 29, 1915, in Zion and served with the United States Army at Pearl Harbor, Okinawa, and Saipan in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a lifelong printer and worked in the printing division at Burgess, Anderson & Tate in Zion as the Plant Superintendent for over 45 years. Robert was a lifetime member of Christ Community Church in Zion (formerly Christian Catholic Church) and served as Volunteer Firefighter with the Zion Fire Department in the early 1960's. He was a lifelong Cubs fan and loved camping with his family at Devils Lake, WI, and spending his winters in Florida. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Grace V. Stried; daughter, Kim (John) Pawzun of Kenosha, WI; son, Michael (Roxanne) Stried of Winthrop Harbor, IL; daughter, Connie (William) Belz of Denver, CO; and son, Edward (Christine) Stried of Janesville, WI; grandchildren, Jessica Snyder, Justin (Heather) Stried, Gary (Mandy) McDowell, Kristi (Dan) Rapin, Matthew (Chantel) Stried, and Kari (Ryan) Masterson; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, George Sr. and Sophie Stried; brothers, George Stried Jr. and Oscar Stried ; grandson, Peter Stried; and great-granddaughter, Lily Stried. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Dr., Zion, with Pastor Jon Wiziarde, officiating. Interment is private for the family. Visitation will be Thursday, from 9:00 a.m until the time of service at the church.
