Roma J. Kerley, 79, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, died on Thursday, June 7, 2012 quietly at home following a long illness.
Roma was born May 13, 1933 in Simpson, IL and came to this area in 1950. She was active at Lakeview Church of Zion where she taught Sunday School for 45 years. She was also a member of local Winthrop Harbor Chapter of A.A.R.P., and was an avid gardner.
Survivors include two sons Allan (Brenda) Kerley of Mobile, AL and David (Karen) Kerley of Winthrop Harbor, IL; four grandchildren Michael (Tina) Kerley, Jennifer (Lee) Reach, Danny Butts, and Cori (Mike) Johnson; five great-grandchildren Haley Kerley, Mikenzie Kerley, Michael Todd Kerley, Madison Reach, and Cole Reach; siblings Joyce (Tom) Dill of Hamilton, AL and Bill (Shelby) Phelps of Vienna, IL; her furry little boy "Winston"; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ron; infant daughter Rhonda; brother Gene Phelps; and father and mother Lenny and Lillian Phelps.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 10, 2012, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 11th, at 10:30 a.m., at Congdon Funeral Home with Pastor Les Martin of Lakeview Church officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorial donations to Lakeview Church Sunday School Education Fund have been suggested.
