Ron Kerley, 79, of Winthrop Harbor, IL died suddenly on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee, WI.
Ron was born February 11, 1932 in Waukegan, IL. He was active at Lakeview Church of Zion where he served on numerous committees and in several positions. Ron retired from Coca-Cola in 1997 after 44 years. After retirement he worked for Midwestern Regional Medical Center and Congdon Funeral Home in Zion. He also served 20 years as Police Commissioner for the Village of Winthrop Harbor. Ron enjoyed golfing and fishing, especially his Canadian fishing trips with friends and family. Most of all he liked just being around people.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Roma; two sons, Allan (Brenda) Kerley of Mobile, Alabama and David (Karen) Kerley of Winthrop Harbor; four grandchildren, Michael (Tina) Kerley, Jennifer (Lee) Reach, Danny Butts, and Cori (fiancé Mike Johnson) Butts; five great-grandchildren, Haley Kerley, Mikenzie Kerley, Michael Todd Kerley, Madison Reach, and Cole Reach; two brothers, Donald (Lois) Kerley and Ray (Sylvia) Kerley both of Goreville, Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rhonda; and his parents, Hubert and Helen Kerley.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 17, 2011, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 18th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home with Pastor Les Martin of Lakeview Church officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorial donations to DSI Waukegan, 1616 Grand Avenue, Suite C, Waukegan, IL 60085 have been suggested.
