​Ronald C. Levin, 72, a life long resident of Winthrop Harbor, IL died June 16, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. Ron was born July 3, 1942 in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Zion Benton Township High school in 1959. He married Karen Jones in November of 1977. Ron became a Fire Fighter in 1963 and during his 50 year career, he wore many different helmets such as Fireman, Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, Administrative Captain, Deputy Chief, and Chief. He officially retired as Chief of Winthrop Harbor Fire Department in 2013. After retirement, he remained active in both the Winthrop Harbor and Zion Fire Departments. His passion was everything fire, but in his free time, he enjoyed collecting trains, camping, music, and fishing. Ron and Karen enjoyed many summers at their seasonal trailer in Pardeeville, WI. He will be remembered for his wittiness, sense of humor and comical stories. Ron is survived by his children Ronald (Kris) D. Levin of Beach Park, IL, Renee Kooi of Beach Park, IL, and Chris (Lisa Sabroff) Pavelski of Kenosha, WI; 8 grandchildren Makenzie Kooi, Maddie Kooi, Devin Kooi, Logan Levin, Hannah Levin, Megan Levin, Joey Pavelski and Heather Garvin; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings Richard (Tanya) Levin, Marilyn (Jack) Haye, and Kevin (Vickie) Levin; sisters-in-law Pat (Dick) Naber and Brenda (Jerry) Lansbury; brother-in-law Ronald (Karen) Jones; several nieces and nephews; and his best buddy Uno. Ron was preceded in death by his wife Karen; and parents Herman and Margaret Levin. A visitation will be held Friday, June 26, 2015 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL., and Saturday June 27, 2015, 9:30 at the Schlader Recreational Center, 2700 9th St., Winthrop Harbor, IL with a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Entombment to follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Winthrop Harbor Fire Fighters Association and Zion Fire Fighters Association are suggested.
