Ronald L. Meyer, 74, of Beach Park, Illinois, died on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Sheridan Health Care Center in Zion.
Ronald was born June 28, 1934 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, grew up in Boyd, Wisconsin and came to this area around 1960. He served in the Wisconsin National Guard for 10 years. Ronald received his B.A. in Secondary Education from the University of Wisconsin, Plattville. He then received his Master of Science in Education from Northern Illinois University in 1977 and a Certificate of Advanced Study from NIU in 1979. Ronald spent the majority of his 38 years in education at Warren Township High School in Gurnee. He taught math for 23 years, then worked as the School Business Manager for 13 years until he retired in 1999.
He was a member of the Association of School Business Officials and the Illinois Association of School Business Officials, as well as a member of the Community Trust Credit Union board of directors. He was also a member of Grace Missionary Church in Zion for 35 years where he served as treasurer and on various boards.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Wendy Meyer (nee Waltrip); one son, Ben Meyer of Beach Park; one daughter, Marjorie Meyer of Grayslake; his mother-in-law, Lucille Waltrip; sisters-in-law, Claudia (Charles) Pierce and Barbara (Garland) Engelland; and other loving extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ludwig and Margaret Meyer; one brother, Walter; and one sister, Lorraine.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, October 22, 2008, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Missionary Church, 1415 27th Street, Zion, with Pastor Doug Carlson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Grace Missionary Church have been suggested.
