Ronald Monroe Mitten

1933 — January 12, 2023

Ronald Monroe Mitten of Beach Park, IL was called home to our Lord on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at the age of 89. Ron was born on June 29,1933 in Huntington, Indiana to Francis and Leona (Maybee) Mitten.

Ron proudly served in the Army Corps of Engineers 808th Engineer Aviation Battalion (SCARWAF) during the Korean War.  Following his return from the Army, Ron married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Stoffel. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed by Outboard Marine Corporation in Waukegan, IL as Manager of Outboard and retired after 37 years of dedication to the company.

Together, Ron & Marilyn were blessed with 7 children who filled their lives with love, laughter, and so many wonderful memories. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, watching old westerns, working on machines, and singing & playing country music on his guitar. Ron was proud to be a leader of the Boy Scouts of America with his sons, and for many years was a member of the Catholic Knights of Columbus. Ron was a traditional hardworking man who was dedicated to his faith, family, and lifelong friendships. Those who knew Ron often described him as dependable, devoted, honorable, loyal, resourceful, caring, multi-talented, knowledgeable, & inspiring

Ron is preceded in death by his Parents; Brother Morris Jay Mitten; Son Greg Anthony Mitten and Daughter-in-law Paula (Mike) Mitten.

Ron is survived by his wife of 66 years; Children,  Rev. Stephen Mitten S.J., Rhonda (Ray) McKenna, Michael Mitten, Mark Mitten, Cheryl Mitten, David (Patti) Mitten; 15 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral Services for Ron will start with visitation on Thursday, January 19, 2023, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion, IL 60099. Followed by a service, Friday January 20, at Our Lady of Humility Catholic Church, 10655 Wadsworth Road, Beach Park, IL 60099, additional visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial 11:30 am.  Interment will follow at Ascension Catholic Cemetery, Libertyville, IL.

In remembrance, charitable donations may be made to the Lake County Honor Flight (lakecountyhonorflight.org) or Our Lady of Humility Knights of Columbus.
