Sandra J. “Sandy” Kurtz, (nee McCoy), 75, of Winthrop Harbor died at home, January 5, 2017.
Sandy was born at home, January 10, 1941, in Valley, Wisconsin. She married Roger L. Kurtz in Waukegan in 1961. She attended North Point Church in Winthrop Harbor. After attending business college, Sandy worked for North Shore Gas, Star Industries, Reliance Universal, Johnson Outboards and Zion State Bank (later Premier Bank, First Of America Bank, and National City Bank). She was a member of Winthrop Harbor Fire Auxiliary for 25 years, Zion-Benton Women of the Moose for 30 years, as well as Zion State Bank Club, Moose Breakfast Club and Golden Oldies Moose Lodge.
Sandy is survived by her daughter, Korine (David) Custer; grandson, Cameron Custer; brother, Palmer (Fern) McCoy; niece, Carol (Scott) Heding; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband Roger Kurtz; parents, Dyke and Helen McCoy; sister Rosemary Holak; sisters-in-law Violet Papesh and Lois Miller; mother & father-in-law Darle & Rhoda Kurtz; and grandparents Elmer & Elizabeth McCoy.
Per Sandy’s request, services will be private for the family. She had a good life with many wonderful friends. Thank you to all who graced her life. Private entombment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL. Memorial contributions to Winthrop Harbor Fire & Rescue Department have been suggested.
