Sandra May

1946 — March 26, 2024

Sandra “Sandy” P. May of Zion, Illinois passed away March 26, 2024 at Aurora Hospital in Kenosha, Wisconsin surrounded by her family. Sandy was born to Mayford and Nellie Patty May 3, 1946 in Waukegan, Illinois.

Sandy graduated from Zion Benton Township High School in 1964. She married the love of her life, Harland in Zion, IL July 25, 1966. Sandy worshiped at the Kenosha Bible Church. She retired from Central Jr High School in Zion as the secretary for 17 years.

Sandy was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She exhibited Christ’s love through her generosity, kindness, and time. She never met a stranger and loved striking up conversations wherever she went. She befriended everyone at the local gym that she came in contact with, which led to more talking than exercising.

Sandy had the gift of hospitality and wanted to make sure everyone was well fed, including the neighborhood squirrels. She loved discussing the personalities of each squirrel she fed multiple times a day. She had a special relationship with Jock Mary, the turtle that her son had 30 years ago as a biology project. Yes, she made sure the grandkids knew that care of the turtle will be passed down to them and back in Brett’s house for the remainder of it’s existence.

She had a stubborn side that was unshakable. Once her mind was made up, it was settled. Fortunately, that side mainly came out in her discussing her faith in Jesus. This is a legacy that she shared with her family and friends. Sandy will be missed, but her family is excited to see her again in heaven.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Harland ‘Red’ May; son, Brett (Jody) May and grandchildren, Kailyn and Dylan May.

She is preceded in death by her father, Mayford Patty; mother, Nellie Miller Watkins and brothers Eugene (Leona) Patty and Steve Patty.

A committal service will take place Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 10 AM at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, 1436 Kenosha Road, Zion, IL.
