Sharron Thorn

She lived, she loved, she laughed.

Sharron (Miller) Thorn, with two ‘r’s’, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024 at the age of 83. She is now with the love of her life in Hawaiian Heaven, as she and John spent many enjoyable months at a time through the years on the island of Kauai.

Sharron and her brothers, George Miller Jr. and Richard Miller, grew up in Zion, IL, raised by a strong, independent single Mom, Dorothy ‘Dot’ Miller. Sharron worked at Bicketts Pharmacy in downtown Zion in high school and carried forward a skill for wrapping presents using ONLY 3 pieces of tape. She worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper for doctors, the last being Dr. Belios, before she and John purchased Olson Comfort Services, an HVAC company in Waukegan, in 1979. After retirement, Sharron would say she was working on her advanced Phd degree in personal medical education as a three-time cancer survivor and other various medical findings with humor and lived well with dementia.

The family wishes to thank Sharron’s friends who made all the difference in her growing gracefully with dementia over the last 10yrs: Nancy Friedrichs, Cathy Alfaro, Doris & George Lawrence, Jean & Fred Russell, her doctor, Dr. Jon Lin and staff were a constant support to Mike & Lana who cared for Sharron after John’s passing in February 2023 and many other friends and family who contributed to her ability to remain in her home in Wadsworth, IL.

Sharron was a devout chocoholic, played golf, was a bowler, bookkeeper, global adventurer, founding officer of the Zion Figure Skating Club, gardener, Girl Scout leader, lifelong member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Zion, IL, and did we say chocolate lover? Sharron was a voracious reader, reading the Wall Street Journal daily, studying and investing in the stock market, and spending quiet times at the family cabin on stilts set on and sometimes in the Mississippi River in Fulton, Illinois.

Loving survivors are: children Mark Thorn and the late Nadine Thorn, Derek Thorn, and Lana (Mike) Thorn Clark. Grandchildren: Luke (Angie) Thorn, Matthew (Devan) Thorn, Paul (Jenny) Thorn, Katherine (Jon) Clark Cook, Geoffrey (Selena) Clark. Great-Grandchildren: Payton, Lillee, Knox, Beckett, Walter, Wynnifred, Leo, Logan and Charlotte (fur baby).

Sharron wished for her body to be donated to science. The gift of donation is the gift that lives on in all of us. https://www.sciencecare.com to learn more.

In honor of Sharron, read a book, share a book, and find joy in helping others who are living with dementia or are a caregiver.
